Lots to do in Lower Peover

Aug 26, 2020

For a small village there’s certainly lots to do in Lower Peover!

Harvey Homes’ Swan Green development isn’t special just because of the quality of the homes, it is also located in a very special place indeed – Lower Peover. Lower Peover itself is a beautiful and peaceful village in the civil parish of Nether Peover in the authority of Cheshire East. It is just 4 miles from Knutsford and 6 miles from Northwich.

Harvey Homes chose Lower Peover as the location for its first ever development due to the appeal of the village and the community feel of the area. While you are surrounded by beautiful countryside and only 5 minutes’ drive from the hub of Knutsford town centre, there is certainly lots to do in Lower Peover itself and it has a great many useful amenities.

Just a short walk from the homes at Swan Green are the following:

  • The Country Store & Post Office – 0.3 miles
  • The Crown Inn – 0.2 mile
  • The Bells of Peover – 0.8 miles
  • Lower Peover Primary School – 0.8 miles
  • Seven Sisters Ice Cream Farm – 2.4 miles

Let’s take a closer look at some of these places and find out why Lower Peover is just the perfect spot for families and couples alike!

THE CROWN INN

The Crown Inn is a short walk from the homes at Swan Green and is a traditional village pub that is known for its warm welcome and home-cooked food. They host regular quiz nights, feature live music evenings and serve up delicious Sunday Roasts, pizzas and other pub favourites. In the summer months you can spend your time with family and friends in the beer garden, while in the colder seasons you can cosy up near the flickering log fire and enjoy warming food and drink.

It’s described in reviews as:

“Lovely friendly country pub with superb food well worth a visit you won't be disappointed.”

“So nice to visit a proper country pub! Lovely home-made food, and such a warm welcome, definitely worth a visit, we will definitely be back! Thanks Team Crown!”

“Fantastic country Inn in the heart of Cheshire. We received a lovely welcome and the food was delicious. The team were outstanding and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The interiors were spotless. I will be back!”

THE BELLS OF PEOVER

Residents of Lower Peover have not one but two fantastic eateries to choose from! The Bells of Peover has previously been named as Cheshire Life’s Dining Pub of the Year and is a beautiful Grade 1 listed dining pub that serves everything from homemade bar snacks to a full a la carte menu.

The pub is known for its stylish and relaxed setting and its large landscaped garden. The food is renowned in the local area and the produce is sourced from local, respected suppliers meaning that you can be assured of the highest quality ingredients. They have a separate Sunday Roast Menu, as well as a Vegan Menu and Gluten-free menu alongside their usual a la carte offering.

Dog lovers will be pleased to know that The Bells of Peover is also dog friendly. Reviews of The Bells of Peover are high, with clientele saying:

“A good old-fashioned pub, with amazing food and staff, who clearly love what they do, it was a pleasure!”

“The beer garden is very spacious and in beautiful surroundings. Service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend for a traditional pub meal.”

SEVEN SISTERS ICE CREAM FARM

As if two pubs weren’t enough for the residents of Lower Peover, the village also features its very own ice cream farm. Seven Sisters looks over the Cheshire countryside and is perhaps the best example of what an ice cream parlour should be! The ice cream is made in small batches every day and there are unusual flavours on offer all the time. There are also sundaes, crazy milkshakes and waffles made to order, as well as a variety of light lunch options.

As part of the Seven Sisters Ice Cream Farm, it also features a Maize Maze which is open in the warmer months and proves to be a great hit for family and friends alike – why not spend an hour getting lost!? The Yard room of Seven Sisters also offers classes and events such as yoga, Pilates, cardio classes, as well as pop-up shops and services.

ST. OSWALDS CHURCH

So, what else is there to do in Lower Peover? Well, St Oswalds Church is not to be missed. With its beautiful stained-glass windows, impressive history and well-maintained grounds, this 14th Century Church is a lovely part of the village. The interior of St Oswalds Church features massive oak columns, a bogwood font and an ancient oak chest, while the gardens around it are well-looked after by a team of dedicated volunteers.

THE TREE OF IMAGINATION

Yes, you read that right – The Tree of Imagination. This impressive structure is a fantastic and unique part of what there is to do in Lower Peover. It was a community project made possible by the residents and businesses in Lower Peover and it was created to delight and inspire children, and all those who are still young at heart. The roof of The Tree of Imagination features an owl box, a bat box and a nesting box. The project was awarded a ‘Little Gem’ award by the Cheshire Community Action, Community Pride Competition in 2015.

So, there we have it – so many things to see and do all in one beautiful village setting. To see it all and to find out whether Lower Peover is the place for your family, why not take a walk around the village and take in the sights, like this one recommended by Cheshire Life
